For the past week a certain topic has occupied my mind. I have wanted to write a post about it but am having a difficult time coming up with a coherent sentence structure. I am so irritated by this and every time I start to think about it, my mind just rants.
So I am going to attempt to put my thoughts in some sort of constructed order. It may or may not turn out well so we'll see if it ends up getting posted.
Sitting at work one day I had the news on in the back ground. I heard mention of some school giving 11 year old girls birth control pills. Wha??.. This caught my attention so I spun my chair around and focused on the story. Some school have reported pregnancies at the middle school level. In an attempt to rectify this situation and help these misguided girls, the school decided to make birth control available to all... wait, wait, wait. Pay attention to this part.... With out parental knowledge or consent.... Are these people insane??
Ok. Now. Here is where my mind spins off into a thousand different directions of half constructed arguments. Some of them I will leave half constructed and others I will elaborate on.... I'll try not to confuse you
First of all, society tells me I have the right to kill my baby in a gruesome, bloody procedure called Abortion; but, I have no right to know if my baby is having sex and swallowing a pill so my baby, herself, doesn't have a baby??? The absurdity of that blows me away, but leads me to another question...
Who, exactly, is permitted to have sex with an 11 year old girl?? I figured since the school system took it upon themselves to provide this pill, that they came up with some sort of ground rules as to who can have sex with an 11 year old girl without it being a criminal act.
Second, doesn't this also promote child molesting? Seriously. Some border line pervert finds out his friends little sister is on the pill..... Yeah, Baby. Fresh Meat! ....That's just disgusting!
Here is my chain of thought on this one. If an 11 year old girl doesn't have enough parental guidance to know that she shouldn't be having sex, and if there isn't a healthy parent/child relationship... what does that tell you about that household? 1. The parents are too selfish and into their own lives to care for the girl. 2. The parents party hearty and expose their baby to devilish behavior. 3. The parents are just too lazy to give a crap and don't care where their daughter is half the time.
This line of thinking spins me off into a whole other world. Instead of giving 11 year olds birth control, the parents of these pregnant babies need to be charged with child abuse. ...Hows that for the politically correct socialists?? ...
What's next? Promoting birth control pills like vitamin C and sewing condoms on little boys?? A kid can't say "Amen" on school property and aren't allowed to play tag because they aren't allowed to touch each other.... Uhhhh, doesn't sex fall under the no touching rule???...
Fine, they want to pass out little white pills? Instead of having the girls swallow the pills, they need to teach them to hold the pills between their knees.... Ok boys and girls. You can't hold hands as you walk to class but you're allowed to stick your.... Ok, I won't finish that statement but that is exactly what the school is saying. Seriously. Who is in charge in America?
Angel and I were talking about this the other day and she said that at the beginning of the school year she got a form letter wanting to know if she wanted Julia to get the papilloma virus vaccination. Angel wadded it up and threw it in the trash. I began thinking about Gracie turning 11. I know it's a few years down the road but by that time our school may be offering the Pill as well. I don't know how, but if this is the case, I will have to seek legal counsel and fight the devil-may-care behavior of the school system.
Another argument that pops in my head... If a child lived in a rough neighborhood and the chances of him/her getting beat up were high, would the school issue them a gun for their protection? ..... Wow, lol, would the left-wingers come screaming after that one...
My line of work has exposed me to a world that I was naive to. I have been doing this for some 13 years and I still get flabbergasted by the irresponsible stupidity of some parents. I am not at all trying to be judgemental. I, myself, am not a perfect parent, but some of you would be amazed at what I hear on a daily basis.
With all this brewing in my mind over the past week, I had a mother stop in with a complaint the other day. Her complaint was a man text messaging her 8 year old daughter. ....your 8 yr old has a cell phone??.. I began to ask a few questions for my log entry. The mother started explaining that her daughter and a friend were texting another friend and mis-dialed the number, sending the message to this man. The man was, of course, intrigued as to who was texting him and sent a message back. Then he sent a picture of himself and another message. The next question popped out of my mouth before I had time to think, "Does he know your daughter is only 8?" "Well, No" she states. My mouth opened to speak but then I quickly shut it and sat down, "An Officer will be with you in just a minute."
Now I know this is a 24/7 world and the daily life of a parent is quite busy taking their kids to and from practices and games. I know that it is a convenience for kids to have cell phones so they can call parents when they are ready to be picked up and so parents have a constant link to their children.... But an 8 year old?? I'm sorry but an 8 year old should never be anywhere without a parent or adult accompanying. And I would never let my 8 year old go with anyone that I didn't know and would have that adults cell phone number for emergency purpose.
I am not trying to be judgemental but this is a perfect example why an 8 yr old should not have a cell phone. They are too immature and naive to handle such a responsibility. Can you imagine what kind of evil scenarios could follow an 8 yr old sending a text to the wrong person?? Is there not already enough evil in the world that we need to protect our children from that we need to crack the window open on their vulnerability?

Great post Bekah. I too was appalled when I heard the pill story. Now a 14 yr old girl has been suspended for a year for having accidentally brought a table knife to school. (It was in her locker) This politically correct thing is so out of WHACK!!! You said it "right on" I'm so frustrated - and the "government run schools" wonder why parents home school or send kids to private schools? Besides all this craziness the kids are learning either!! How about making the girls dress decent - not showing their behinds i short shorts and low cut tops - even in middle school!!! Boy I could go on and on. Keep my little girls safe and talk, talk, talk Bek - it is so frightening out there.
Love Mom
Preach it, sister! I so agree. I couldn't believe it when I heard that on the news.
I unfortunately missed this story, but I am shocked! It is in no way appropriate for schools to be able to "parent" their students this way. The government is allowing way to many changes within our school system. Illinois just past the law for every school to have a moment of silence at the beginning of each day. The kids don't even know why or what the reason is. Next I'm going to hear through the grapevine birth control pills are being passed around? I really hope not. Parents need to be active participants in their children's lives. It's as simple as that.
NICKY - A friend of mine from IA was just in town and she told me that in a achool district somewhere in the midwest, is holding a "moment of silence" for the first graders so the children could "seek direction from their internal advisor"!!!!! Ever read Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti?
ACK! I'd pull my kids outta that school so fast that it would make their head spin.
Excellent post, sister-friend. We need more parents and people becoming pro active here.
I think the reason they are giving birth control is because they think an 11 or 12 year old will be too scared to tell their parents so the school is the compassionate shoulder.
God forbid they tell the girls, "um, aren't you too young."
This generation and those type of leaders are all about relieving guilt and feeling better for their own sin and weakness.
Keep blogging this type of good stuff.

I had absolutely NO IDEA about this. I too am completely appalled. And you make some fine points in your post today Rebekah. Really well stated.
My head is just spinning in disbelief. Our world is just going to pot. If we didn't know WHO holds tomorrow, I would be very afraid.
anyway, thanks for enlightening me. I'm with you!
Just further confirms my feeling that homeschooling is right for this Mama and daughter.
As a grandparent of four girls, 3 of which are under 13, I am horrified by this situation. I can only look on it as yet another sign that we are quickly approaching the end times. Pray for us and our children.
Yeah, that story almost made me hurl my cookies. They wanna provide birth control pills to babies, but yet they (the government) doesn't want to have a health care program for children.
Totally agree with ya! Great post!
I wholeheartdly agree with everything you have mentioned. Kids are kids and adults need to be adults an WATCH the kids, not give permission to just do whatever!!!! well written.
