Playin Hooky

Yesterday I took a comp day and went to a quilting class. We started this a few years ago. A few ladies from the area host a class twice a year where we attempt to put together an entire quilt top in a day. They give us the instructions and we are to have our material cut and ready when we get there. They keep us moving by giving us tips, iron our pieces, cut and trim when needed, and help us piece the blocks together. We all bring a dish and have lunch together. We've gotten to know each other over the years and it's a great time. We range in ages from 70 to 30.

This is the quilt we started yesterday. No, Caleb's head is not part of the quilt. He was holding it up for me. This quilt is supposed to be a wall hanging. The stars took a long time to get done so no one got their quilt finished. I have 2 border pieces to add and then the top will be finished. I thought about adding an extra border and making it a throw quilt, not sure yet.

Gracie wanted me to take her picture with the quilt, too. The quilt actually looks pretty good considering how stressful those stars were. I was afraid the big heart blocks wouldn't come out very straight because the little star blocks weren't straight. But that's what these ladies do, they help us make things look straight and 'square' with their years of experience and little tricks they have learned along the way.

I really love your quilt. That is beautiful. I love patriotic stuff too! I know it is too much work to give away, but you should put it in Shannon (Rocks in my dryer's) giveaway. Wow, would you get the hits then!!! Or you could raffle it off!! Anyway, it is beautiful.

Your quilt is really pretty. My husbands grandma has a group that makes them too. I love when she makes one. We are starting to have a nice collection.
