The lady that organized our quilting day came up with the pattern for the quilts, bought the material and cut the fabric into ready-to-go pieces. We got started first thing sewing strips together.
Then the strips were cut into blocks
Next, we sewed the blocks together, making another block. 1/2 the blocks had the blue on the inside, the other half had the red on the inside.
We kept sewing blocks into bigger blocks. The bigger blocks were made into strips. Finally we sewed the strips together to complete the quilt. This quilt pattern is called Rail Fence. It still needs to have the border sewn on it, so I guess it's not quite complete
This was the second quilt... I was busy sewing strips for the other quilt and didn't get to work with this pattern but it looked neat... If you look closely at the white block, there are two lines drawn in the center. The blue strip and the red strip were placed with right-side facing down and sewn to the white block.
Next the alternating color (blue or red) was placed right-side down and sewn onto the white block.
Here are four finished blocks put together. We were trying to decide how to turn each block to make the pattern we wanted in the quilt.
Once there were enough blocks completed, we laid them out to make sure this was the desired design. All the blocks were made for 3 quilts but we ran out of time before we could get any sewn together. A couple ladies that couldn't make it this day said they would finish up any quilts at there homes.
This is the group of ladies that showed up to quilt. The lady holding the iron didn't sew but wanted to participate. She ironed blocks as the were completed and then passed them on to the lady on the next phase of the quilt.... having her iron blocks was such a time saver.... The lady that organized it was taking the picture. The young girls is a sophmore in high school, she came with her grandma... So I wasn't the youngest this time... My friend that got me started quilting with this group of ladies 4 years ago was busy having a baby.... we all thought she should have showed up any way. we could have taken turns holding the baby... We will get together next October and make another quilt. I now have 3 quilts tops that need to be finished. I guess that gives me about 6 months to finish them up before I start a new one.

That is so neat! I have quilts my great grandmother made, and nothing feels like home but them! A couple of them are in taters, but we still use them!
