Caleb reached in the cabinet for a bag of popcorn and tossed it in the microwave.
*Beep. Beep. Beep.*
Carefully, he pulled the bag from the mic... caution- bag may be hot... and opened the top. Steam puffed out. Caleb glared down into the bag for a second, realizing that something was different. These puffs of corn were white, not yellow, dripping with butter. He mistakenly grabbed my popcorn... ya know, the kind with no flavor...
He hesitated about eating it but I wouldn't let him throw it away. "Melt some butter and pour over top" I suggested... Lawd have mercy, that child looked at me like I was crazy... He stared at me long enough to realize that I was not joking. I was serious.
"How do I do that?" He asked... what? are you kidding me?... The boy will be 13 in two weeks, and he cant figure this out?... where did I go wrong?...
My eyebrow cocked, eyes narrowed, "Put some butter. In a little cup. Stick it in the microwave. And nuke it for about 20 seconds." ... and of course there was absolutely NO sarcasm in my tone...
Caleb still looked at me like I was crazy. I rolled my eyes and sliced some butter off into a cup. As I went about melting the butter I regaled him with stories of how we used to make popcorn... ya know, back in the stone age...
Caleb watched me pour the butter over the popcorn and add a little salt. Still skeptical he grabbed a handful, "MMmmm. Not bad. But I still like the other." *Sigh*

this is cracking me up! i love it! we did the same thing a few months ago thinking the girls would just love homemade popcorn...same result.
oh well...go on back to easy peasy.
Yeah, it's so weird to think of OUR generation being old-fashioned, when we grew up with stories of our grandparents going to school in a one room school house or having just a handful of people in the whole high school. Phonographs? Telegraphs, record-players? We grew up thinking THOSE things were old fashioned. Now our kids don't even know what those ARE!
LOL, I HATE microwave popcorn, it leaves a nasty film in my mouth! I make it the old school way and my kids love it! We wouldn't have it any other way.....from the stove and full of real butter and salt!
LOL! He is a Boooyah you know.
One of my friends makes sure her three sons can all cook, clean and do their own laundry.
Hint, hint. ;D
Love you!
My kids eyes popped out of their heads when I made Jiffy Pop for the first time. I told them that was the 'microwave popcorn when we were younger.
This is so funny Bek, you ought to make some popcorn in the skillet for the boys sometime. I love Sniz' comments.
