Puppy Rescue

Last week, the neighbor knocked on our door, "Sorry to bother you at dinner, but my girl's puppy crawled up under the shed and he is stuck good"... knowing Chuck does construction he continued... "Do you have a floor jack I can use?"

Chuck was up at the fire house... the volunteer department in town... "I'm not sure if Chuck has one or not. I'll call him and ask"

"Ok. Thanks" the neighbor smiled and left to go check on his puppy.

It was meeting night up at the fire house, but only a few of the guys were there. I explained the situation to Chuck to which he responded, "Yeah, I have a floor jack in the garage. But we aren't doing anything here. We'll just bring out the rescue truck and lift up the shed."... its been slow at the fire department lately, cant you tell...

I walked across the yard and found my neighbor, "He does have a floor jack, but to let you know, he is on his way here with the fire truck"

The neighbor smiled and shook his head. He just wanted to get his puppy unstuck, now it was turning into an 'Event'... you know all the neighbors will show up once they see the fire truck...

With in a few minutes, Chuck and his crew showed up. They pulled the air bags and hose equipment off the truck and walked to the shed. I noticed they had a Cadet with them, this will be a training exercise for him, as I am sure he has never seen them use the extrication equipment.

Immediately they got busy placing the air bags and connecting the air hose. In the picture below, Chuck is kneeling by the shed, placing an air bag. Alex is getting the other equipment ready.

Chuck sent the Cadet back to the truck for some cribbing... the cribbing is used to help stabilize as the shed is being lifted. It also serves as safety in case the air bags bust, the shed wont come crashing down on them... In this picture, Chuck is explaining to the Cadet how to place the cribbing.
And it didn't take long at all for this little guy to stick his nose into it. Once he was far enough out, Chuck grabbed the puppy by the back of the neck and pulled him out the rest of the way.... its a St Bernard puppy- so soon enough he will be way too big to crawl into tight spaces...
I didn't get a picture of the puppy all the way out- Suzie wanted me to pick her up so I shut the camera off... darn it...

and it was a small event for the neighborhood- as I turned to leave I smiled and nodded at a few of the neighbors that came to watch. Then I had to gather the girls up so they could finish their dinner- but all they were interested in was that cute little puppy

What a beautiful post! Who would have figured it would be a Saint Bernard.

Aren't those dogs supposed to rescue others in need? It just so happens that this one, perhaps too young was also a "cadet" in training!

What a sweet puppy. I want a st. bernard soooo bad!

Thats how the police are, when it's slow they all show up to a call! Especially if its a "funny" call.
