Another Shopping Trip

Earlier this spring, I posted about Gracie and I going shopping. Gracie had a great time singing Dora and making comments in the dressing room.... of course this was all in her very loudest voice. Well, Monday I took all the kids shopping.
Josh wanted a PSP (Play Station Portable) and Caleb wanted to get a new Mp3 since he lost his. At first I told Josh "No" to getting the PSP, seeing how he already has a Game Boy and Game Boy Advanced. I researched PSP and considered how hard they both worked setting tobacco. I finally decided to let them spend some of their money.
We went to the bank and withdrew the allotted amount to purchase their electronic desires... with the agreement that the rest of the money they make this summer working for Chuck goes straight into the bank...
Once we got to the store and shopped around, Caleb decided he wanted a PSP, too.... it has a built in Mp3 player so he was getting two for the price of one. And what a price it was... The tally, including PSP, one game and a case, was $200!! I took a deep breath as they handed over their cash... reminding myself how hard they worked, and of course, a lecture about taking care of their new 'bounty' and refreshing their minds of the hot, sweaty days they spent in the sun.
Now to Gracie.... since the boys were getting something, and I was picking out a few t-shirts for myself, I asked Gracie what she wanted to get. "A pink puppy", she piped with a smile. I laughed... 'pink' is her answer to everything these days... "ok, we'll find you a pink puppy"
I mentioned at the start of this post about my last shopping trip with Gracie. Well, this one proved to be much the same. We were in the same Kohls as the first trip and I was trying on clothes. Gracie went into the dressing room with me while the boys waited with Suze. I'm changing and Gracie is sticking her head under the stall... but no one else was in there this time... "Hey mommy, look at this", Gracie says as she crawls into the next stall. I shake my head, "Gracie, get back here." And in her usual loud voice, "Hey mommy, I see your boobies!" *sigh* I am sure anyone standing outside the dressing room could hear her...
Moving on, ...oh, I need to mention that while we were driving to the store I was playing songs on my iPod. The kids kept asking me to play songs they liked.... cuz I can do that with my iPod (have I mentioned lately how much I love that thing?) Gracie asked, "whats that 'wooly wooly'?" She was asking about one of my new favorite songs "In Your Presence" by Charity Von (she is just awesome). I laughed at Gracie because the phrase she was asking about is 'Holy Holy' not 'wooly wooly'. We played this song several times ..... Now, back to the story...
So we are in Kohls and Gracie is singing. Of course the only words she can remember is "HOLY! HOLY!" .... "HOLY! HOLY!" ... "HOLY! HOLY!" ... and she is singing them as loud as she can. However, she is carrying the correct tune... maybe you will see her on American Idol someday
Josh and Caleb were getting the biggest kick out of her. Gracie was in her own little world, looking at stuff, picking it up and putting it back, all the while singing her new favorite word, over and over and over...
Our next stop was W*l Mart. And believe it or not, stolling through the toy department, there on the shelf, was a little 'pink puppy'. Gracie snatched it up... but then she noticed a pink 'my little pony'. Now she has each of these toys under her arm, ready to go to the check-out. I explain to her that she can only get one... after all her birthday is only a week away... She finally, regrettingly, puts the 'pink puppy' back on the shelf and hugs tight her pink 'my little pony'.... because the little pony had a little bottle "Winner!"

What a wonderful blog - you took advantage of the occasion to teach the boys without preaching. They will certainly appreciate their "bounty" so much more since it was their hard earned money.

And Gracie - so cute, you have to be ready for whatever she might say. . . . and love her singing. You are also teaching them through the music you play.

Wonder when the ACLU will try to keep children from singing??? :o)

Great stories!

Wow, I'm sure it was hard to watch the boys spend that kind of money but they are definitely learning financial responsibility. I'm sure they'll sleep with those things to keep tabs on them. lol

Ok, and I'm very jealous that Gracie has been PT for over a year! We're still trying to coerce Asa onto the potty. He has done it twice and that's about it. Maybe Gracie can get him excited about it when she's here. And I'm sure she's sleeping with her new pink pony. Too cute!

See ya soon!

My 2 boys each bought a gameboy game today. Matthew wants a Nintendo DS so bad he can taste it! Part of his leverage is that the DS will play his gameboy games and he won't need to buy a bunch of new ones. My argument is that the only reason he wants a DS is to get the new Pokemon games that are only for DS. Plus, his Gameboy Advance is only about 17 months old.
I'm not telling him that your boys have them. LOL!
