Things were so busy this weekend that it took 3 days to make the cookies. Friday morning I had to pick up my van (it had some work done Thursday), run a few errands and I took the girls to McD0nalds for lunch.
When we got home, Gracie and I mixed up the cookie dough. It has to sit in the refrigerator for a half hour. Then it was straight to getting dinner ready and off to the Jv/Varsity Basketball game. Caleb's 6th grade team was being acknowledged at half time of the JV game.
Saturday morning was a juggle of running to basketball practice, bowling team and finally home to stay.... it's a good thing we live in town. Whew!... Suzie went down for a nap and Gracie and I got out the cookie dough. Gracie helped for a little bit but then she found other interest.
I finished the cookies and cleaned myself up. After Suzie woke up I asked the kids if they wanted to go get the tree. Caleb had a friend over and Josh was in the middle of a video game. Chuck was sick all weekend and wasn't up to getting the tree. I really wanted to get it so I could check it off my list. The girls and I jumped in the truck and made it a "girls" event this year.
We got to the nursery and walked up to the trees. Suzie jumped up and down shouting, "Oh WOW! Oh WOW!" Gracie and I picked put a tree.... Ok, mostly I..... Gracie was more interested in the candy inside the store. We picked out a few bags of candy and some fresh apples. It was a fun trip. We might make this a girls event every year.
When we got home Chuck had all the decorations down and waiting for us. He got the tree ready and we put it in place. I strung the lights and Caleb and Gracie helped hang the ornaments. Suzie went right for the glass balls and tried to eat them. Josh hung one or two but wasn't too interested in it this year.

Sunday afternoon I mixed up the yummy cream cheese icing and we iced the cookies. Gracie tried to spread icing but she preferred shaking the sprinkles. About half way through icing, the boys ate lunch and then lost interest. I told them "Fine. You don't ice cookies. You don't eat cookies." That worked for a few more cookies, but then they completely quit on me. I finished up what was left and cleaned up the mess.

Instead of helping me finish the cookies, Josh decided to decorate his room. Josh and Caleb dug through the box of lights and found an unused strand. They asked me if they could use those light in their room. I told them yes but no tacks in the wall. They were more excited about the idea of decking their room than anything else this weekend.
After all this, Caleb had a basketball game. Chuck still didn't feel good so Suzie stayed home with him. I wanted to take the kids Christmas shopping after the game but Christmas shopping has been put on hold.
This Thursday a piece of property we have wanted for a long time is coming up on auction. All extra spending is suspended until the outcome of the auction. I really want this property but the timing of the sale stinks. The girls are too little to understand if they don't a ton of presents and the boys are old enough to explain whats going on. I will have a hard time not buying presents if we do get the property. I LOVE buying presents!! It just one year... but this piece of land will be for a life time. And on the flip side... if we get out bid at the auction, I can console myself by going Christmas shopping!!

I love the tree and the cookies look great. You got lots done! I agree about the property - it will be great but too bad it's right now.
Oh, good luck on getting the property!!! That is exciting. I hope you get it..but if you don't, at least you can go buy presents, like you said.
You DID get a lot done this weekend. I'm proud of you. We too baked cookies (see latest entry).
Oh, and I LOVE the lights in the boys' room. hm...not sure if I should show that to Brandon or not. I'm sure he would wanna do the same thing.
What a busy weekend! No wonder it took you all weekend to get those cookies made. How many dozen did you make--12?? Good luck at the auction on Thursday.
This is so great Bek, the tree is beautiful and the cookies look yummy!! I hope you get the property and I don't think the little girrls will know the difference if they don't get "a ton" of presents. :o)
