Handwriting and Mopping

I am back at work today. Back to getting up at 4:30am. I didn't have to be at my class until 8:30 vs being at work at 6am. I got to sleep in until 6:30.... whoo hooo, 2 extra hours of sleep... But surprisingly I was much more tired than normal the first two mornings... Go figure.... By the third morning I was getting used to the extra hours. Although I enjoyed the sleeping in, I really hated getting home 2 hours later than usual.... oh well, its a give and take...

The class wasn't too bad. I got a 98 on the test... Yippee Hooo... but that's because I've been doing this so long I already knew all the stuff.... I just forgot that I knew it. One of the things I remembered was that I do, in fact, know how to use an ink pen and write down actual words.... think about it, how much do we actually write these days??

I have noticed lately that my hand writing is suffering. Its more of a scribble really, because its usually just a note to myself. I don't even have to fill out checks any more because most places have the electronic do-hickey that does it for you. All I have to do it sign my name.... which is becoming illegible...

So, one night after class I took some time to review what we had gone over... The best way for me to study is to take notes on what I am reading... I began to write down notes and I had to really concentrate on forming legible words. It was work! After just 20 minutes my hand started cramping and I had to give it up.... how pathetic is that? My hand has become fat and lazy (so to speak) and can't even take notes for 20 minutes. I think I need to start a handwriting exercise program for my hand. .... Ooooh, oooh, I know---- This needs to become a National Program. I need national funding to proceed.... {Damn the computer! It's ruining America's handwriting ability} ** Sorry, I got a little carried away with that. But I seriously wonder how long before someone starts screaming about this...

On to the mopping of the floor story....

Since my class fell on my two scheduled days off, I was determined to get one item of house cleaning done. My floors have been neglected lately. Its hard to find time to mop when there are no kids running through the house.

Tuesday night the boys were at their dad's so I was less two kids. I decided to mop, thinking that Chuck could occupy the girls. I started pulling out chairs and took a toy to the girls room. I returned to find that Chuck had moved the table into the living room.

Me- "You really didn't need to move the table." not that I didn't appreciate the help, I just wanted him to keep the girls out of my way...

Chuck- "I figured it would be easier for you to clean."

Me- yeah, ok, it will be easier..

I picked up rugs and swept the floor. As I stood at the kitchen sink filling up my mop bucket Chuck started to crowd me in.

Me- "What are you doing" shifting to the side as Chuck pulled out the Frig...

Chuck- "I'm sure its dirty behind here too. It needs to be cleaned"

So with Chuck "helping out"... creating more work... no one is occupying the girls. The are enjoying this new "open" land... running in circles and dancing on the floor I need to mop... I start hand mopping the bathroom and laundry room... they have been neglected too long and need a thorough scrub...

Passing through the kitchen, Chuck has the Frig wiped down and floor behind it cleaned... but is now pulling out the stove.... and the girls are running wild.... geez! I just wanted to do a quick mop on the floor... Now ready to start in the hall, Chuck got the girls a movie and told them to stay in the boys room... which lasted all of 5 seconds...

Chuck swept and mopped behind the stove, put it back in place, then mopped the kitchen area. The girls were having a grand time with the furniture displacement and I finished up the dining area.

WHEW!!

Well, I didn't intend to be this thorough but I am glad Chuck was there to push me a little further. We got a small portion of spring cleaning done and the house just felt better; knowing that floors were scrubbed and cleaned.

Oh, and I have to tell you about Gracie. She stood over my bucket of mop water and kept commenting on how good it smelled. She stuck her head down in the bucket and took a big Wiffff.... "Mmmmm, that smells GOOD Mommy! It's wonderful, isn't it?" Then "copy-cat" Suzie had to do the same thing, "at 'mell dood, Mommy"

There I am, trying to ring out my rag, in between their two faces stuck in the bucket. It was too cute.

wow, chuck was really in a cleaning mood huh? It feels so good when you get done with that type of cleaning though. I really need to do that also...heck, I just need to clean my nasty bathrooms!! Perhaps this weekend? But probably not.
Sometimes when I sleep later, I am more tired too. Kind of weird. I didn't walk this morning though so it felt good to sleep in until 7:00 a.m. as opposed to waking at 5:20! I enjoyed the extra rest. Have a good weekend. I still intend to write you details about the Roger, but I just haven't taken the time to do it....

They sound so cute! that is awesome that you got the floors so clean, but I was laughing at his make work project:)
I am with you on the handwriting-even schools do not consider it important anymore. They let kids type everything if it is easier for them.

I enjoyed that mopping story. Those men do make more work sometimes, but I bet it looks great. My handwriting is getting worse all the time too. I'm starting to write like a Dr!

Hey Bek on the handwriting - ME TOO!! I can address an envelope pretty decently yet but otherwise FORGET IT!! The mopping story is too funny - Chuck being too helpful. . . and the girls loving the smell of the mop water - what did you use Ammonia???? :o) (Inside joke)

Love Mom

You're right, I do think that handwriting is going the way of the horse and buggy.
