Excuse me a moment while I brag on my hubby... what else would a good wife do?... Seriously though, I am very proud of Chuck for what he means to our family and for what he does for our community.
Every year our local Legion hosts a dinner for area Law Enforcement and Fire Departments. They pass out awards such as Officer of the year and Fireman of the year. This year, there were two Firemen of the Year as well as a new award, Life Saver.
Both awards went to Chuck and another member of his Volunteer Fire Department for their response to a motor vehicle accident back in November.
*** It was a very slick morning and Chuck and I had just sat down to watch Caleb play a basket ball game. Chuck's pager went off, toning out his department for a vehicle that slid down over a cliff, trapping the driver between a tree and the vehicle.
This particular road is a narrow country road that winds straight up a hill. On one side you have the hill, but on the other side there is nothing but down. Straight down. Oh, there are a few trees to maybe slow your fall, but not much else.
The driver of the car was trying to make it up the hill but started to slide backwards. Some people that live on the hill came out to help. A younger lady got in the driver's seat and tried to turn the steering wheel to perhaps get the vehicle to slide into the hill instead of over the cliff. It didn't work.
The lady had left the driver door open and when the vehicle went over the cliff, she partially fell out- pinning her leg under the vehicle. A tree stopped the vehicle, but caught her in between- leaving the weight of the vehicle on her chest while she was pressed up against the tree.
Police, Fire and EMS showed up at the scene and quickly discussed the situation. Chuck and Matt ended up... volunteered for it, I'm sure... with harnesses on and repelled down the cliff. Their job was to stabilize the vehicle and get her out.
To make a long story short, they got their job done with out incident. The lady was transported to the hospital, treated and released with no major injuries.... God was on her side that morning...
To Chuck, this is his job- what he is trained to do, what he loves to do. To the family members that watched their daughter slide over a cliff and hear her scream out of terror and pain- Chuck is a life saver and a hero. To me, it's simple- Chuck is my everything.

First, to Chuck: Way to go dude! Don't dissmiss what you do as "just doing your job" It's taken a lot of years, training and hard work to do something like that, that well. Your wife certainly has a right to be proud!
To Beka in regards to your post:
Awwwwwwww! (sweet!)
Wow! Good for Chuck. You are right to be proud of him!
Congrats go out to chuck! My hubby is a police officer, so I know how proud you are of him. We have had a few awards ourselves.
Congratulations to Chuck! And it may just be doing his job - but there aren't a lot of people that are willing to risk their life (every day!) for another person!
That is simply awesome - congrats to your hero hubby!!
