Two For One Special

Last week, the girls were running around the house playing tag. Back and forth. Up and down the hall. Laughing and giggling.

Huffing and puffing, out of breath, they decided to take a short break. Gracie stood in the kitchen, shoulders hunched, sagging in exhaustion. "Coulll I have a dwrink, Mommy?" Gracie asks, letting her tongue hang like a worn out pup.

Enter Suzie, carrying her special blanky, tossed over her shoulder. Already having poured her a drink, Suzie reached up for her cup... Gulp. Gulp. breath. Gulp Gulp Gulp... That juice must of hit the spot- both girls set their cups on the counter, ready to bounce back into play.

Suzie snapped her blanket at Gracie and they started playing tug of war with it. Foreseeing a negative outcome, I warned the girls to stop. "You're gonna rip that blanket. Go find something else to play."

They tossed the blanket down on the wood floor and started chasing each other around the couch. As they came around the third or fourth time, a new idea flashed like a neon sign. Suzie hopped on the blanket and without a word, Gracie fell right in sync with Suzie... A Ride!!... Gracie grabbed two corners of the blanket and started pulling Suzie down the hall.

"Gracie, stop that. You're going to tear it." I commanded in my 'mother' voice.

Gracie, still holding on to the corners of the blanket- mid pull- was quick with her response. "But then she will have two blankies instead of one."

Happy Gracie is developing a strong sense of reason, but I could still see this as a problem come bed time. "That's a very good observation, Gracie. But some how I don't think Suzie will see it that way. Put the blanket down."

Of course the response I got was an eye-roll... yeah, have no idea where she got ThaT from... The girls moved on to something else and I rescued the blanket from any further 'ideas'.

How funny! It's amazing how they do this so young...it's like getting a glimpse into the future of their teenage years.... ;)

Asa is into huffing and puffing (and whining) when he thinks we're being "too much" for him. And yes....the strong reasoning skills...wow!

LOL, Ahhh the rolling of the eyes at such a young age. Too funny. This story has my boys written ALL over it. Josh pulling Jonah around in something, on something, you name it, he's used it on the wood floors to drag/push/pull his little brother around. =)
