In my last post I told about our camping trip from a couple weeks ago. I mentioned I had a 'Caleb' story to tell, so here goes...
****
I walked down the boat ramp after parking Chuck's truck and jumped in the boat. Chuck pushed the throttle forward and pulled away from the boat ramp. Caleb pestered us all morning about wanting to go tubing on the river. After cruising the lake for a few minutes, and tired of hearing Caleb ask if he can tube yet, Chuck slowed up the boat and tossed in the tube, "Ok Caleb. Jump in"
Caleb zipped his life vest up and cannon-balled the water... whooo Hoo... He swam to the tube and pulled himself up. It took Caleb a minute to get situated on the tube. Finally he looked up with an anxious grin and gave us the thumbs up. Chuck pushed the throttle forward again and moved us out into the open water.
My duty as "Spotter" was to sit at the front of the boat and face backward, keeping an eye on the "Tuber" (Caleb). Being in this position made it difficult to watch where we were going. Passing boats created waves that bounced our boat up and down. In turn, that made me bounce up and down... ouch!... I grabbed a spare life jacket and sat on it, trying to cushion my rear.
We hit a big wave, bouncing me hard. A few second later Caleb hit the same wave and flipped off the tube, doing a cartwheel across the water. Laughing I held up my hand and hollered for Chuck to stop.
Chuck swung the boat around quickly to guard Caleb from any other passing boats. Cutting the motor to an idle, Chuck pulled up next to Caleb, "Are ya alright?" Caleb's braces sparkled from the sun's reflection. "Yea! Did you see me?" Caleb asked excitedly as he reached for the tube floating past him.
Once again Caleb was situated and gave us the thumbs up. Chuck sped the boat up. Off we went.
Chuck pulled Caleb all around the lake, hitting only a few small wave- nothing big enough to toss him off. After several minutes of trying to keep himself on the tube, Caleb held up his hand to stop. "Caleb wants you to stop" I yelled at Chuck over the sound of the engine.
Chuck slowed up and turned back toward Caleb. Caleb let go of the tube and slid into the water, leaving only his head sticking out. "What's the matter?" Chuck asked as we idled next to Caleb.
"I lost my shorts!" Caleb gasped with a laugh. By this time we were close enough to see his little white hiney, shinning under water. I chuckled, "Look! Its a full moon in the middle of the afternoon!"
"Did you lose them all the way?" Chuck laughed. "No" Caleb replied as he continued to struggle with his shorts wrapped around his ankles.
Several seconds of wrestling around in the water, Caleb finally got his shorts all the way off so he could un-twist them and put them back on. Chuck cautioned Caleb with humor, "You better hurry up before the fish start nibbling on ya." Caleb smirked at Chuck's remark, "Ha. Ha. Very funny."
Shorts tied tight, Caleb was dressed and ready for more action. He got himself positioned on the tube and gave us the thumbs up. Off we went again.

Rebekah,
So glad to see just how much fun Caleb had enjoying himself on the inner tube.
Glad also that he didn't lose his short completely and you would all have to go searching for them.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
What a good story - tell Caleb I got a good chuckle out of this. So glad he enjoys tubing - it sure sounds fun to me. How about you, do you tube?
OMG-what a great story!
