The girls and I dined at McDonald's last night before heading out to Caleb's baseball game. While the girls nibbled on their nuggets and fries they began discussing healthy foods. Gracie tossed out one food after another, explaining why it was healthy or non-healthy... of course french fries are healthy foods because they are, after all, potatoes...
After several minutes of going over various food items, I tried to explain that all foods are ok as long as they are in... I wanted to use the word "Moderation" but I knew that would only lead to more questions asking what the word "moderation" meant...
I thought for a quick second trying to come up with the lowest denominator word; a word they would understand. I tossed around words like: wise, quantities, sensible...
I restarted my sentence, and it went like this, "Any food is ok to eat, as long as you eat it in 'Smart Amounts'".
Suzie swallowed her bite of french fry, then cheerfully announced, "I have a Smart Mouth!"
I just about spit out my tea laughing, "Yes Ma'am you do! But I said 'Smart Amounts' not 'smart mouth'".
Suzie shrugged her shoulders, "Oh." and dipped another french fry in the ketchup before shoving it in her mouth.
