Alligators And Flying Monkeys

A few days ago Chuck's parents stopped by to pick some blackberries. It was the first pleasant evening in several weeks so we pulled some chairs out into the yard and sat under the shade tree watching the kids play. Edith noticed a couple buzzards fly over head and began to laugh, remembering something about Suzie.

Edith filled me in on the story...

A couple weeks ago Suzie was over at Mamaw and Papaw's. At some point during her stay, Suzie fell and bumper her head. Mamaw, being Mamaw, was worried about Suzie's booboo.

Later in the day, Suzie and Mamaw went for a walk. Out of the blue Suzie blurted out, "Look Mamaw, there's an alligator!"

"An alligator??" Mamaw thought Suzie's observations was odd... considering we live in southern Indiana and aren't really known for swamps and gators... and started to grow concerned about the bump on Suzie's head. However, once she saw what Suzie was pointing to, she did she how that chunk of wood resembled an alligator.

Back at the house after thier walk, Suzie again blurted out an observation, "Hey look! Flying Monkeys!"

This time Mamaw panicked, "Flying monkeys!? Oh dear lord, that bump on her head is making her hallucinate. I'm going to have to take her to the emergency room!"

I cracked up laughing as Edith told me the story. I could just imagine it happening... lol... Edith started laughing too, as she finished the story.

In her few seconds of panic, Mamaw looked toward the sky, knowing she wouldn't see any flying monkeys and Suzie was going to need a trip to the ER. But high up in the blue sky were buzzards soaring around; and then it dawned on her.... the Wizard of Oz!!... Ohhhh... and the Flying Monkeys!! ...shewww...

Suzie wasn't hallucinating, her imagination was just running full tilt
