Poor Little Pretty Kitty

Busy in the kitchen, cooking chili, sipping on a glass of wine, and listening to some good music... chilling from my day... I told the kids to go out and put Cricket back in his pen.

A few minutes passed and Gracie came back in to tell me she couldn't find Cricket or Tilly (our chocolate labs).

"Go back outside and keep calling them, they'll show up." I told Gracie

Another few minutes passed. I gave my chili one last stir before I let it simmer. Gracie marched through the front door and announced, "We found Cricket! and he had a dead Kitten in his mouth!" I looked up from my chili pot to see the disgusted look on Gracie's face.

My indifference to the situation changed as Suzie walked into my kitchen right behind Gracie and held the dead kitten high up in the air by its tail.

My first thought was "Suzie. has. a. dead. kitten. in. my. kitchen." But the humor of the situation struck me and I started laughing. Suzie smiled and looked at the kitten she held by the tail, "Its a pretty kitty."

I couldn't help but laugh out loud in spite of it being very sad. It was a pretty kitty. But the whole situation of Suzie picking it up and carrying it into the house.... I'm still giggling. I guess it reminded me of Anne of Green Gables when the mouse died in the plum pudding...

So what did I do? I flipped open my phone and snapped a picture. Seeing that I was about to take a picture, Suzie smiled.

I laughed again, "Don't smile! you could at least look sad about it."

Suzie put on her best sad face, I snapped another picture and we sent it to Chuck.

"Now take that kitten back outside and throw it in the woods."

Suzie turned toward the front door, "I'm sorry kitty" she said matter-of-fact. Gracie was a bit more pouting about it, "I wished Cricket hadn't killed it. I would-a kept it"

As sad as a little dead kitty is, its even sadder that the girls aren't more upset about a finding a dead kitten. But I guess animals dying around our place lately is nothing new.

Sorry pretty little kitty

such a funny story ... thanks for the reminder that life and death are just part of the plan ... such a great title to your blog too ... diagonally parked in a parallel universe ... it just made me want to take a look ... well done ... that would also be a great book title ... so start writing that book ...
