Our church has home groups that meet during the week. There are 4 groups and each one meets on a different night so that everyone can find a group that works into their schedule. A month or so ago, the Monday night home group called me to invite the Fire Department members and their families to a dinner at the church. "Hey, that would be great"
Anyway, we got everything scheduled and set up. Tacos on May 14, 6:00 at the church.... yum-mo, I love Mexican food.... The fire department met at the firehouse a quarter til and we walked to the church as a group.... uh, its only a block away
We walk in and the church group is already there. They greet us and invite us to sit. Things are a little quiet and awkward at first. Pastor is there and says a few words in appreciation to the department. We pray and then belly up to the buffet.... chips and salsa, tacos... Delicious
About half way through the meal the pagers go off. There is a wreck outside of town and the victim needs to be cut out of the car. The guys jump up and run out.... a very typical thing. attending a get together is a sure sign that the fire department will get called out...
The wives and kids finished eating and hung out. It became a little more social as everyone began to feel more comfortable. I tried to sit and visit a few times but apparently the church has some sort of alarm system that only my cheeks can activate. Every time I tried to sit, Suzie would crawl up on the stage and run around. ...its a platform stage with three of the sides open. one little slip and Suzie would fall about four feet .... I walked around, keeping my conversations with people short.
Some of the church members were starting to get out plastic containers so we could load up food for the guys when Chuck called my cel and said they were on their way back. They guys got back and ate. We hung out til about 8 o'clock and then headed back to the firehouse.
It was a very nice evening and very appreciated

Glad you had fun! Hehe. My preschooler keeps me on the move at social gatherings too.
HOW cool! What a great idea! I think I'll take our guys some cookies Wednesday night.
That is SO funny, what Gracie said about Caleb bonking Suzie. She's a little fireball, huh!
