During a college lab class, the Professor noticed that one of his exchange students kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back was sore. The Professor asked the young man if he was ok. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country. The communist were trying to overthrow the government and convert the county to communism.
The professor listened intently to the students, "That is an incredible story you have." The student nodded and glanced down at the floor. Shifting his gaze back to the Professor he asked, "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?" The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man was serious, "This was no joke." Intrigued the Professor asked, "How do you catch wild pigs?"
The student replied, "At the edge of the woods start dropping some corn as you walk out to the middle of an open field. The pigs will find it and start eating their way to the open field. The next day leave corn in the same spot in the open field. The pigs will come. Within a few days the pigs will be used to coming to this spot to get their food. After the pigs eat their dinner, build a fence along one side.
The pigs may hesitate the next day, but they will get used to the fence and come to eat. A few more days will pass and they will be used to seeing the fence. Again, after the pigs leave that night, put a fence down the other side. The pigs will get used to the new fence and continue to come and eat.
Continue this process until you have all four sides of the fence up, leaving an open gate on the last side. The pigs will be so used to getting free corn that they will come through the gate to eat. Once all the pigs are inside the fenced area, close the gate on them. Now you have captured a whole herd of pigs.
When the pigs are done eating that night, they will try to get out of the fenced area. Some pigs may ram and kick at the fence but soon they will accept their loss of freedom and go back to eating. Becoming used to free food being provided for them, they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves."
The young man then told his Professor that he sees this exact thing happening in America today. The government is leading us right into socialism. They offer us free corn in the forms of government programs such as supplemental income, farming subsidies, welfare checks, government health care, child care, tax credits for unearned income, increasing taxes to give unearned money away so that the people can all be equal. Americans are losing their freedoms a little at a time. The People are buying into the idea of getting something for nothing, but in the end, "nothing" will cost them 'everything'.
One should always remember-- There is no such thing as a Free Lunch! A politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do yourself.
It's always nice to get a helping hand, but all this wonderful "government help" is a little scary to me. I work hard. I might struggle from time to time. But I would rather struggle on my own, then have to beg the government. In this very important election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you- just maybe, hopefully, you will be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America.
A government big enough to give you everything you want
is big enough to take away everything you have.
Thomas Jefferson
*note* this is a story I re-wrote from various e-mails that have been going around. It's point really hits home

So, where do I get this free corn?
Excellent post!! And very true. Wake up sleepers.
And Big Doofus, you get the free corn by growing it yourself. But in case you haven't noticed, the gov't is taking your corn and giving it to people who don't want to work for their own.

Just a guess, but I think Big Doofus was being sarcastic.
yeah, this is really true. Anyways, I'm also a firefighter's wife. And I'm proud of it. I'm proud of you too.
That is a great story. I totally agree with the message, here in Canada we have way too much government in my opinion and we give up far too much freedom for it.
I totally agree.
And we grow our own corn. LOL
I've received that story in emails as well, and I totally agree.
It's like with our children, the more we do FOR them, the less they're willing to try to do for themselves!
Thanks for posting this! It's always good to be reminded about things that are important in our lives.
Well said.
Wow.....great post! Well said!
I see that you have found the kangaroo rodeo and I'm pleased that you've been chiming in. For this experiment, feedback and interaction with curious and insightful writers is crucial. I'm creating a traveler's tale in a virtual environment about subject matter that is completely new for me. I just posted some incredible live footage and I'm about to pick up where I left off with Chef Scary. I hope and expect to hear from you again very soon...
M-
I want to say so much about this post but all I will say is that I agree. It feels like I'm working just to have it taken away. And the more I earn, the harder I work the more that gets taken away from me.
I like this example of the wild pigs and socialism. We need to watch out who we vote for that is for sure.
