I guess I'll just continue on with another political rant... kinda sorta... A few months ago Chuck and I were driving out to the farm. This song came on the radio and Chuck cranked it up. It was the first time I'd heard it, or at least really listened to it.
The truth in the lyrics echoed as the haunting tune hung heavy in the air. I was filled with a sense of 'patriotism' and 'this-is-what-its-all-about'. It's about surviving the tough times. Getting through what we think is too hard. To me, the 1930's and 40's have always represented simple times when people stayed tough and survived the hardest of times... the Depression and WWII...
Every generation has it's struggles and obstacles to over come- but there are some that always screech a 'sky is falling' message... trying to scare you into running for cover under some government program... I remember in high school the idea of global warming, paper bags destroying the world, fast food companies using styrofoam containers that were contaminating our environment and aerosol hair spray was burning a hole in the ozone layer.
Well, here we are 20 years later... man, that bites to type out... 20 years- wow... and it's as if all this is new information. Now, the plastic bags that replaced the paper sacks are filling up the land fills, causing problems.... well if it ain't one thing, its another...
Life is so much better than it used to be. The technology and conveniences... but still, we complain. Yes, times are a little tough right now- but who are we to think our life should pass with no difficulties? Living conditions sure are a sight better than the 30's and 40's- running water, electricity, cell phones, computers, instant communication.... but those living during those times didn't know any different. They got up early, did their chores, dealt with their problems and went about their day.
Today- it just seems good is never good enough.
This is the actual video but it looks like it's been copied. The image is distorted and the sound is a bit off, so bear with me-
