Ya know, there are distinct differences between boys and girls. Oh, I'm not talking about the obvious physical attributes... duhuh... Or even the definite emotional differences... which there are... And just to clarify here, there are great difference in personalities, boys amongst boys and girls amongst girls... Josh and Caleb are a good example of that. They are as different at black and white...
I'm referring more to how boys/ girls react to the world around them. Having kids of your own is quite an experience. Watching them grow and learn... of course some days are more fun while others make you want to pull your hair out... Watching them transform mannerisms from all sides of the family into their own person.
With Josh and Caleb, I have seen little bits of me in them. More so in their basic personality type than in the way they react to things.
However, Gracie and Suzie bring a whole other side of me to life. As with Josh and Caleb, I see pieces of both Chuck and I in each of the girls personalities. But their expressions and reactions carry a different weight... it is such an incredible thing to observe...
So anyway, the reason for this post-
Last night Gracie came in my room. And like a girl, she always has something to say... where as trying to get information from Josh and Caleb is like playing a one-sided game of tug-of-war... I don't remember what we were talking about but I brought up the fact that we might have a light dusting of snow in the morning... which we didn't- but it was cold this morning...
Gracie looked me square in the eye, and with a bob of her head, "Well, if we do. I will Nawt. Be. Happy."
I was speechless! Who is this person standing before me? It was like watching a little version of me come to life. I shook my head and laughed. "But I thought you liked snow?"
Again with the little head bob, shoulder to shoulder thing, "Well, yeah. But if it booms (I think she was referring to thunder) ...she added a little eyebrow raise here... I wont like it. No, I will. Nawt. Be. Happy!"
Again, I was speechless. I never saw this part of me come to life in Josh or Caleb, at least not to this extent. I, uh- I was,.. just didn't know what to think or say. It was kind of spooky. Looking at this little mini-me person.
And to think that when I was pregnant with Gracie, I wanted another boy. Boys are easy... sometimes... I was familiar with boy-stuff- so lets just add another boy to the mix. But those two little girls just make life all the more interesting.

Oh yeah, boys are soooo different than girls! Everytime it gets cold or cloudy, my girls run to me and say, "It's OK, Mommy! Don't be sad!" They know me too well!
I wish I could tell you that I know what your talking about! Having 3 boys, all I see is their dad! My middle son is a clone of my husband. It's wierd. We call him mini B, dad is Brandon, B for short. They even have the same birth mark!
Our girls are, in many ways, little Miss Snizes and it's really fun to imagine what she was like when she was their age.
I hate it when I see myself in my kids because I usually only recognize the negatives of my personality. It's like looking in an ugly mirror!
Sometimes seeing myself in my kids is great, other times not so much. My 16yo had a fight with her long-time boyfriend last week and I saw so many of my bad relationship habits come out in her. It was not pretty. So, I sat her down and had a long talk with her, in which I had to convict myself of my role in marital difficulties. It was sobering for both of us.
BTW congrats to your hubby on his paid position!
I can picture Gracie doing that - too cute!! But as someone else said sometimes you see something you 'd rather not see - we don't like that "mirror" image. :o) We had snow/ice in the mts this morning - had to close some of the roads. Hope we get some down here in the valley this year!!
Love to all
It is really interesting to see those little bits of yourself in them. Sometimes good - sometimes bad!
My daughter is the biggest mystery to me. If she grows up to be her mother than everything is okay with me. I recognize with surprise that with my son (15) and my daughter (12) I have a double standard. A bigger surprise is I have no intention of changing. It will be interesting to see how these double standards manifest with you as your daughters grow older.
God bless!
Will
I crack up when friends of mine will say "I don't know WHERE he/she learned that from!" in reference to something their child has done that they are unhappy with and I KNOW where it came from....THEM - the PARENTS! LOL If they are good friends I don't have any problem telling them that. LOL
So cute! Girls are an awesome adventure.
